Wilsons Prom 2 - 2017

Australia Day Week - Trip 9

The Trip started with our now customary stop off at the Cafe in Fish Creek.  After that a stop off at Yanakie Store to swap over the Gas bottles and off we went.  A quick U turn as we left Yanakie to pick up the wallet that I left on top of the camper as we drove off and we were on our way again.

After setting up Camp on the same site as last year we headed of with the rest of the Group (Simon and Denise and Jess, Cath and Cam, Ollie and Georgia) to the River for the afternoon.  Kayaking and a swim in the river saw the rest of the day out.

The customary Spag Bol for dinner as usual and off to bed.

Day 2

The start to the day was William and I walking down to the river to  Jetty 4 for a couple of hours of fishing.  Lots of great views in great weather but only an undersized Bream to tell tails of.

After returning to Camp we discovered that everyone else had ventured to the beach so we joined them.

The afternoon we returned to the river to seek refuge from the wind.  More Kayaking and play in the river.

Day 3

Started as Day 2 but with a swap of company, Mitch and I fishing down at the same Jetty, for about 45 mins, not quite as patient yet.  Then on our return we stopped off to book the Rangers Activities, 1 1/2 hours later we returned to camp and headed off to the beach to meet the others again,

Again after Lucy re headed off to the river for the afternoon to play cricket and have a good time in the river.  That evening we sat around commenting on the great weather we were having....... (Maybe we shouldn't have)

Day 4

We were woken about 1am by the freight train that is the wilson prom wind.  80-100km/h winds smashed us until about 7am.  No real damage except for the shade tent that Simon provides.

A trip into Foster was called for though after a night of banging in pegs we realised we really needed better longer and stronger pegs.

On the way home we took a small detour down 5 Mile Road, to eat our bakery lunch of pies.

After returning to camp we had a lovely afternoon of rest around camp.

And then my 1st ever Kayak fishing for a couple of hours....

Mitch found a bug that he was very proud of......

That evening we headed off for our traditional Wombat hunt, finding a mere 6 this time.  One even on the river beach.

Day 5

We decided (Farley's) to climb Mt Oberon today.  We weren't sure if Mitch was quite up to it yet bet he was a real star.  Not only making it up, but down all by himself too.  We even managed to secure a table for 4 with a view at the top for lunch.....

Another afternoon around camp, the kids are having a ball....

Day 6 (Australia Day)

This was a great day, Starting out a bit slow with it being overcast a the odd very light shower, The kids set up their anual stall selling Australia Day memorabilia this time.

We headed off in the afternoon to The Big Drift, What a great place.....

Day 7 (My Birthday)

Thanks Cath and Cam for decorating their tent, So due to the day before being a bit overcast we decided to head off for a walk from Squeeky to Whisky, Followed by a float down Darby River.  With lunch at Darby River, What an afternoon......

Day 8

Our final full day for another year,  we headed down to the beach for a spot of metal detecting this morning, we found $4.20 in coins and a million bottle tops.....  good fun.  Back to camp for lunch and then headed back to the river for our final afternoon.  A spot more Kayak fishing and a final swim.

Our final Wombat attack for the week and off to bed.

Day 9

Another fine pack u day, we have been lucky again.
